What A Trial This Trial Seems To Be

There is  a very controversial trial scheduled for New York City. It involves people ,one in particular,Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who were involved in the masterminding of the 9-11 attacks. Many people have weighed in on the fact that the trial is being held in lower Manhattan, not far from Ground Zero itself. There have quite cogent arguments both for and against this particular decision. But there are so many elements of this decision worth discussing no matter what one thinks of the locale.

The Attorney General, Eric Holder said it was his decision and he informed the President as he was flying to China. He further said that he discussed it with his wife and his brother who is a retired Port Authority officer and lost friends in the attacks. He told Jim Lehrer that he told Obama of his decision, not that he consulted with him. I’m sorry, just not buying that one even though David Axelrod backed it up. Trying for a little plausible  deniability it seems.

Second item that is generating concern. The decision has been made to employ civilian over military courts. I read comments that compare this trial to Nuremberg and how  those  trials  did not advance the cause of the accused and thus this trial will not. Problem, WWII was over and those trials were military tribunals. This little insight may be telling in that regard. Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano says 9/11 type attacks should be condidered”man cused disasters ,” what ever that means. This backs up the Attorney General’s position nicely.

Finally, and bear in mind that the trial will occur at some future date, listen to the President(himself a lawyer) answer a query from NBC’S  Chuck Todd about concernS  over the legal rights the defendants are getting. Read it carefully. ” I don’t think it will be  offensive at all when he’s convicted and the death penalty is applied to him.”  That is a stronger guarantee than Joe Namath made when he promised a Super Bowl win way back in 1969.

Ok, to his credit Todd had a great follow-up. He said that using a civilian court over a military one was a way to show the fairness of our legal system. Now, you have just said he’s going to be convicted and given the death sentence. Ole Chuck is getting real close to losing White House access. Now, the President fires back.” Look, what I said was that people will not be offended if  that’s the outcome. I’m not prejudging it.” Only one problem with those last 2 sentences. They are wrong. Not being a well-trained legal mind, I cannot be certain. But, has he not poisoned the case? Must not have had TOTUS  close by.

This trial will be  a doozy.

  1. 1. As the top law enforcement officer in the U.S., the Attorney General IS supposed to make these decisions. There IS supposed to be some separation between the AG and the President. (There WASN’T when the AG was John Ashcroft and/or Alberto Gonzales and the President was Bush, but look where that got us.)

    2. An offhand comment in an interview of the President is not likely to poison THIS jury pool at all. If a potential juror can claim that they don’t have any prior knowledge of this case that would affect their ability to reach an impartial verdict, odds are that potential juror doesn’t even know who the President IS, much less what he may or may not have said to Chuck Todd.

Only a diehard Barack Hussein Obama backer would say that Obama wasn’t in the middle of this! 2010 elections will tell the whole story about what the people think about bring terrorist onto American soil!

    • I’ve also read that President Obama may erect a bronze statue of KSM at Ground Zero. Right here on this blog, as a matter of fact.
      Does that make it true?

      • By the way, the reference to Paterson came from a CBS news article by Marcia Kramer on November 16. It can be read at cbsnews.com/blogs2009/11/16. If you are interested.

  5. So did Barack Hussein Obama! These far left policies is why his ratings are going down, down on this day 19 November, 2009 with less than a year in the White House! 27% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove. Now that’s what I call low for that short of time.
Yes Obama knew and told his man to do it but to keep him safe by saying that he did it without Obama knowing! Oh well they lied about job creation and everything else so why not this!

  6. The far left liberals give the impression that obama is perfect, does that make it true? Who unlocked that door in Colorado? :)

    Comment by Goodtimepolitics | November 21, 2009 | Reply

    • No, Obama isn’t perfect. No man is. On the other hand, he’s not ALWAYS wrong, as GTP would try to lead one to believe.

GTP, you can lock anyone and any idea out of your tiny little blog. You do it because you cannot handle anyone who disagrees with your small-minded view of the world. But you can’t lock us up.

There will always be outlets for us, GTP. Even if every rightwing blogger extremist locks us out, we have the most effective outlet of all: the ballot box. You canot stop us there, GTP, no matter how much you redneck racists try.

Have a good day. Watch the Senate take one more step towards meaningful healthcare reform.

  7. Tell me larrys what has your savior done wrong in the last 11 months in the White House or can you even amit his wrong doings?
Taking over private companies to me was wrong, delaying troops to the Middle East while our young men and women are dying on the battle field and needed back up is wrong, Spending over 800 billon dollars for creating jobs when in fact he lined the pockets of his supporters with the money and job lost is still rising is wrong, now trying to spend another 900 billion for the government to take over health care turning this great Nation into a socalist country is wrong, bring terrorist from gitmo to our own soil is totally wrong and for you larry to support him in all this puts you on the far left of most Americans! Yes you have a good day because 2010 elections will be your nightmare!

  10. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 27% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -15. This is the lowest Approval Index rating yet measured for President Obama

Looks as if more Americans are agreeing with what I have been saying all along compared to what you been pushing larrys! I see your pants leg is still wet!
